If you could leave notes for the future, what message would you have left in the past for today?
Submitted by Nameless.
I'm not sure I understand this question. Why would I write a note to future me? Isn't that what a memory is for? Does the me from the past hold pearls of wisdom that the now me is oblivious to?
What amazes me is the number of people who answered this question without actually reading it. Go ahead, peruse some of the answers. It's mind boggling.
With everything that's going on in the world right now, what events/issues do you find most concerning?
We are bloodsucking leeches (second posting)
I am not usually this pessimistic, but I can't shake the idea that Mother Earth is doing her best to rid herself of us. I am of the opinion that the Earth is a living, breathing thing. Not in an exact literal sense, but alive non the less. She is living and we are mere parasites living off her blood and slowly eating away at her body. At first, she didn't mind. Originally we were part of a symbiotic relationship with our planet, as are the rest of the animals and plants that we share our home with. Mother Earth was not bothered by us because we did not bother her. The more our civilization developed and our technology and needs grew, the more irritated she became with us. I look at past natural disasters, Pompeii
for example, as her way of scratching at the itch we were giving her, as a dog bites at fleas. She really started getting pissed off during the industrial revolution
. In April of 1815 a massive volcanic eruption occurred in Indonesia. Mount Tambora
exploded shrouding the atmosphere in a blanket of ash causing a change in the global climate. The lack of crops in "the year without summer
" killed hundreds of thousands.
The 2006 tsunami in the Indian ocean, the cyclone in Myanmar, tornadoes all over the mid western United States, the devastating earthquake in China, are all just the latest attempts by our "host" to cure herself of a deadly infestation.
What do you do when you get a crush on someone?

Really? This is our QotD? Come on.
What was the last thing you "got away with?"
At this very moment I am trying to get away with leaving Seattle 4-6 hours early. I got to the airport at 10:30. My scheduled flight doesn't leave until 5pm with a layover in Portland getting me into Phoenix at 9pm. I am currently on standby for flight that leaves at 11:45 and one that leaves somewhere around 1pm. Those are both direct flights.
Don't tell my boss though. I am supposed to be doing inventory at out Seattle store right now.

When electing a person to lead your country, do you take his or her foreign policy views into consideration?
Submitted by Mary.
What kind of a question is this?! You had better take foreign policy into consideration! If you aren't, you shouldn't be voting!
Video: Show us the first music video you ever saw on TV.
I was 5 years old. I remember seeing this video and thinking "Yeah, I love Rock 'n' Roll too, but you can't build an entire city with rock 'n' roll. That makes no sense!"
As it turns out Blender named this song the worst song ever! And now it's stuck in my head! Damn you QotD!!
Which one of your ancestors would you most like to talk to?
Submitted by Kathy.
I can't say that I know who any of my ancestors are. Is that bad? I would like to talk to my maternal grandmother. She died when my mom was 6 years old, so I never had a chance to meet her. I also wish I could have an adult conversation with my paternal grandfather. He was such an interesting and funny guy. He lied about his age so he could join the Navy in WWII. Being the history buff I am now, I'd like to hear some of the old war stories he must have had to tell. Also the rumor in my family is that his father (or was it grandfather?) left Sicily to escape the Italian mafia. That must be an interesting story as well. Too bad I wont get to hear these stories.
This does bring up the fact that I know very little about my lineage. One day I would like to try to research my ancestry and find out where my family came from. I am told my maternal grandmother and her twin sister were adopted. I'm sure that finding records on that might run me into a few road blocks, but that is for another time. I'll have to put genealogy on the shelf for now.
What are you most grateful for in your life right now?
Submitted by Becca-Pink.
I hated high school. Honestly, I hated most school growing up. Aside from a few friends, it was a crap ass experience for me the whole way through. I was always the new kid, always getting picked on. Plus I hated the way most of the teachers were so disrespectful and condescending. I ended up getting in trouble for demanding the respect I was taught (at home) that I deserved from my teachers. So it is surprising to me that my answer to this QotD is: the ability to go back to school. Yes, I know college is inherently different. I don't have ANY of the same problems I had back then, but I had told myself that once I was done with high school, I wouldn't have to go to school anymore. I would be free! The thing is, I couldn't be happier to be going to school now. I was working on some math homework last night and I was getting excited about getting the answers right. I had never been excited about math before. Now that I am so motivated to get to where I want to be, I'm not even discouraged by how much school I will have to go through. I feel so lucky that I have the money to pay for the classes I want to take right now. My mom and Rashida keep yelling at me to get some financial aid. My mom is convinced that I can get some kind of scholarship. I'm not so sure about that, but we'll see. I would love to be able to go to school full time and not work, but that's not in the cards right now. So for now, I am grateful just to have the opportunity to follow my dream.
